ABOUT MARK

In the late 1970s, Mark’s journey into the world of Yoga began as a response to a back injury. What drew him deeper into this practice was the non-judgmental philosophy that holistically addressed both the body and mind. During this era, Yoga was far from mainstream, and basic equipment like yoga mats and props were scarce, unlike today’s perception of necessity. Instead, the focus was on dedicated practice and personal growth. Mark found his niche in Iyengar Yoga, a style that aligned with his practical inclinations. Under the guidance of his late teacher, Valda Moore, Mark embarked on a teacher training course and earned his Iyengar Yoga teaching certification in the late 1980s.

Mark’s dedication to Yoga led him to teach at Melbourne’s early Iyengar Yoga schools, including the Rathdowne Yoga Room, and later co-establish the Doutta Galla Yoga Studio with Sally Russell in the early 1990s. His commitment to this practice took him on multiple journeys to India to study under the guidance of  BKS Iyengar, his daughter Geeta, and son Prashant. Mark was granted a Senior Teaching Certificate in the mid-2000s. Today, he continues to share his wisdom, teaching at various yoga schools and retreats across Australia, and contributing to teacher training programs in Melbourne.
